What is The Sims™ On Stage?
The Sims On Stage is a creative community where you can sing and record your favorite songs as well as write and perform your own comedy sketches, poetry, and stories. You can even create movie mashups by mixing your own performances with movie clips from The Sims 2 game.
With The Sims On Stage you can:
- Watch and Listen: Discover entertaining content created by talented performers and writers.
- Write and Record: Show off your artistic side by popular songs and writing and performing your own comedy,
poetry and stories.
- Rate and Review: Vote and give feedback on written creations and performances by others in the community.
- Share: Embed your own and other member's creations and performances to a MySpace page, blog, or other sites, share them via email.

Play, Rate and Share Content
To play any performance, creation or mashup on The Sims On Stage, just click on the title. This will load a page where you can play it, find out more details about the performer or creator, rate and give feedback about it, and share it with your friends.

1) Player Screen
This is where song lyrics, written text, and images or video appear during playback of a creation or performance. When playing a text-only poem, comedy piece or story, the controls at the bottom center of the screen let you manually step through the pages of the written creation or play through it automatically like a slideshow. If someone has recorded their performance using a webcam, the webcam video will appear on the screen. If you are playing a mashup, the movie will appear here.
2) Play/Stop/Pause/Volume
Use these controls to play the content and set the volume level.
3) Rate it
By rolling over and clicking on the stars, you can rate a creation, performance or mashup.
4) Recent Feedback
Read comments from the community about a creation, performance or mashup here. Use the Add Feedback link to join the discussion.
5) Sharing
Share any performance, creation or mashup by embedding The Sims On Stage player in your MySpace, Facebook or blog page or email a link to your friends. We make it very easy to get the word out about your favorite content.
Record yourself singing popular songs or performing original poetry, stories and comedy routines created by you or another member of the community. Use a microphone to record audio only or add a webcam to capture your performance in glorious video.
To record a karaoke song, just browse the karaoke charts or songs to find a song you wish to perform, or click the link at the top left of any song page to "Record your own version of this song!" To record audio or video of a poem, comic sketch or story, just browse the charts in those sections or click the link at the top left of any Poetry, Comedy or Stories page to "Record your own version of this creation!" Or if you want to record a performance off the cuff, just click the link on the home page or any category home page to "Record a Comic Routine/Poem/Story."
1) Microphone Setup
To record audio, plug your microphone into your computer and the first time you try to make a recording, the player will take you through a short set up procedure. During recording, the mic level indicator under the stop/pause buttons will show you the volume of your mic.
2) Webcam Setup
To record webcam video, plug a webcam into your computer, choose a song to record, and set up the camera by right-clicking on the player screen, selecting the "Settings" option and clicking on the webcam icon.
3) Player Screen
The song lyrics or written text appear on the player screen during recording. During karaoke recording, pauses are preceded by count-down dots. The gray text fills in blue to show you the timing of the lyrics.
4) Instrumental / Demo Vocal (Karaoke)
If you want to preview a song or practice before recording your performance, you can listen to the vocal demo version and then sing along with the instrumental version.
Write a Comic Sketch, Poem or Story
The Sims On Stage makes it easy for you to create content for other members to enjoy and even perform. To write a poem, joke or story, just click the link at the top left of any Poetry, Comedy or Stories page to “Write now.”
1) Text Screen
The text you type appears here. Just click on the screen and start typing.
2) Formatting Options
Choose font, size, justification and other formatting options for your text.
3) Asset Library
Background images, colors and background music may be selected here. Just click on the corresponding tab and make your selection from the available options to add more character to your creation. The background images and colors can be different for each page. Only one background music track may be selected. The music you select will continue looping throughout the duration of the playback.
4) Page Navigator
The pages you add to your creation appear here in order. You can add or delete pages by clicking the + or – buttons. Click on any page to view or edit it in the Text Screen.
5) Preview / Save
To preview your creation, click the “PREVIEW” button. When you are finished creating your content, click on the “SAVE IT” button.
Get creative and mashup The Sims 2 video clips and images with your own audio and webcam recordings! Add captions, transitions, and effects to make your mashup even more entertaining. To create a mashup, click here or go to the Mashups home and click the link under CREATE A MASHUP!
1) Movie Screen
Drag and drop movie and image clips onto the movie screen to add them to your mashup. Preview the clips and images you have added here.
2) Asset Library
The asset library holds all of the materials that are available for you to use to create your mashup, including movie clips (choose from your own webcam recordings plus footage captured from The Sims 2), images and audio (choose from your own recordings plus music from The Sims). Just drag clips and images to the movie screen or the timeline to add them to your mashup. Drag audio to the movie screen or the audio timeline to add it to your mashup. There are also transitions, effects, and captions that you can apply to clips and images that you have already added to the timeline. Just select a clip or image in the timeline, then drag and drop the desired transition, effect, or caption onto the movie screen.
3) Properties Panel
Whenever a movie clip or image is selected, all of its properties are shown here, including clip length and audio mute on/off (movie only), plus transition, effect, and caption. This is also where you can set the in and out points for your movie clips and the duration of your images.
4) Timeline
The timeline shows the movie clips and images you have added to your mashup in the order that they will play back. You can add a new movie clip or image by dragging and dropping it wherever you would like to insert it in the timeline. Add transitions by dropping them into the arrows in the timeline. Delete a clip or image by dragging it from the timeline to the trash can on the right.
5) Soundtrack
To add a background soundtrack to your mashup, drag it from the Audio tab of the asset library and drop it on the soundtrack. Only one audio soundtrack may be used. To delete an audio soundtrack you have added, just drag it from the soundtrack to the trash can on the right.
6) Preview / Save
To preview your mashup, click the “PREVIEW” button. When you are finished creating your mashup, click on the “SAVE THIS WORK” button.
Photo/Video Slideshow
Once you have recorded a karaoke performance or created written content, we’ll show the song lyrics or written text automatically during playback as a default. You can further personalize your performance or add another dimension to your creation by creating a photo or video slideshow for it. You can upload a single photo from your computer or access photos that you may have stored on the photo/video hosting site Photobucket. NOTE: slideshows are not applicable for webcam recordings and mashups.
1) The Sims On Stage Slideshow
The Sims On Stage slideshow features images chosen by us. We will change the images from time to time.
2) Upload a photo
Choose this option and upload a favorite photo that we'll show during playback.
3) Photobucket
Upload your photos and videos to Photobucket and then create a slideshow from them. Creating a Photobucket account is quick, free, and can be done right from this page.
My Studio gives you access to all of your creations, see results of contests you have entered, view and edit your profile information, view and access your favorites, and keep in contact with your friends and fans.
1) My Studio Home
When you first click on My Studio, your My Studio Home page shows you your public profile info, along with My Stats, My Favorites and My Fans.
2) Profile
Click on PROFILE to view and edit your personal information.
3) Creative Work
Click on CREATIVE WORK to view all of your performances, creations
and mashups.
4) Contests
Click on CONTESTS to view the status of all of the contests you have created and entered across all categories, or find a new contest to enter.
5) Favorites
Click on FAVORITES to view the creations you have selected as your
favorites across all categories and members.
6) Friends & Fans
Click on FRIENDS & FANS to view all of the members you have
designated as your friends as well as all of the members that have
designated themselves as your fans.
7) Feedback
Click on FEEDBACK to see all of the feedback comments you have
given to other members and received from other members.
